CAITLIN MCCARTNEY
Staff Attorney
Caitlin McCartney joined GELC as a Staff Attorney in July 2018. Prior to joining GELC, Caitlin has worked to advance gender equality and safety, particularly in schools and in the workplace. Caitlin worked as a Staff Attorney at Legal Momentum: the Women’s Legal Defense and Education Fund, where she represented victims of discrimination, human trafficking, and sexual violence. Caitlin also worked as a Civil Rights Fellow at the New York State Office of the Attorney General, where she contributed to investigations of civil rights violations in a variety of areas, including employment, education, and immigration.
Caitlin received her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2015. As a law student, Caitlin worked as a Certified Student Practitioner in the Immigration Clinic, where she represented undocumented victims of domestic violence. During her summer internships with Legal Momentum and the National Women’s Law Center, Caitlin worked to enhance protections for student victims of sexual assault and aid Title IX compliance. As a law student, Caitlin served as an editor on the North Carolina Journal of International Law & Commercial Regulation. She has published two scholarly articles on the civil rights and remedies surrounding childbirth.
Caitlin holds an M.A. in English & Comparative Literature from Columbia University and a B.A. in English from Davidson College. Caitlin is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the U.S. Southern District of New York.
